As a result of the cooperation with the Italian Embassy ,this center was established as a Center of Italian Studies in 1998, and a teacher of Italian language was sent via the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When the Language Institute was founded, this center has become an Italian Language Center.
The center is interested in teaching the Italian language as a foreign language at different faculties, and as a second European language at the Faculty of Letters and Humanities.
The center holds workshops for the teachers of Italian in order to bring forth the latest books and methodologies.
- The center provides courses for teaching the Italian language that are of 10 levels, ranging from the beginner to the advanced levels. It also provide courses in Italian culture and civilization, Italian literature and translation, and other courses in Italian for Special Purposes: medical, architectural, technical and tourist Italian. The center also admit students (not less than 10 in number) who look for courses for other special fields .

starting from 2003, the center is adopting a plan of 10 levels instead of 7 levels, as this plan saves the time required for listening and speaking activities, and for watching video cassettes …etc.
The center provides summer scholarships for the students as the most famous universities in Italy so that they improve their level in the Italian language and they get information of the Italian culture. The center also help the students get the entry visa to Italy.
At the end of each course, the student gets a documents certifying that he/she has accomplished the level.
Each course consists of 35 hours, 3 classes a week, each class is 1and a half hours
1st Course : from February 1 to March 27
2nd Course : from April 5 to May 29
3rd Course : from June 28 to August 21
4th Course : from November 1 to December 23
Registration starts 15 days before each course. The passing student is qualified for the upper level. If the one is absent for two courses and more, one has to take the placement test.
